CLARKE UNDERGROUND

About the Project

Clarke Underground undertook one of our largest Powerco projects in the local area of Marton in 2024 sub contracting to Obertech.

The project was completed over the space of 6 months. To meet deadlines for power outages and switch overs the procure was on to continue through the winter months ensuring all environmental policies were followed and maintained to suit all conditions.

The aim of the project was for Powerco to improve the reliability of the local electricity network by installing new underground ducting and cables between the Marton and Arahina substations. This upgrade will strengthen the power supply, reduce the risk of outages for homes and businesses, create a backup electricity supply route and help future-proof the network for growth in the region.

The project involved around 3.86 kilometres of earthworks to lay new 33kV and 11kV ducting. The trench specifications range from 1.2m-2.5m width and 1m-5m depth.

The work was carried out in stages, with traffic and environmental management plans in place to minimise disruption. The new infrastructure has enhanced energy resilience and support ongoing development in the Rangitīkei District.
