Turakina Project
CLARKE UNDERGROUND
About the Project
A recent horizontal directional drilling (HDD) project in Turakina successfully installed a 400mm OD pipe over a 130-metre alignment to replace a damaged stormwater outlet servicing a low-lying residential area.
This critical infrastructure upgrade was designed to alleviate recurring flooding affecting local properties.
The drill path ran from depths of 2-4m, terminating at an outlet into the Turakina River.
The job posed several technical and environmental challenges, including sensitive terrain, fluctuating water tables, and the need to minimise disruption to the surrounding community and ecosystem.
Despite these complexities, the project was executed efficiently and with a strong focus on environmental. All identified environmental risks were addressed through robust management plans and best-practice procedures.
The crew maintained excellent control over bore alignment and depth insuring the correct grade was met, achieving a clean installation with minimal surface impact.
The completed pipeline now provides a durable and reliable stormwater solution for the area, significantly reducing the risk of future property flooding and improving resilience for the local community.
Overall, the project was a strong example of directional drilling being used to solve essential infrastructure challenges in a sustainable and technically proficient manner.
